I think this raises several massive problems.
1, it makes items in game inaccessible to poor people. When you were a kid you had zero income or ability to buy items. Imagine asking your dad for $5k for a mount. Regular players will quickly be priced out of things. I know you’ve been extremely rich for a long time, but we’re seeing an era with extreme and growing income inequality and wealth disparity. NFTs in gaming hand power to the rich and strip it from the poor as the rich are able to easily corner markets or drive up prices in games, making this inaccessible. Just look at the price of land in The Sandbox or Decentraland, or the price of a cosmetic in Vail VR. It’s absurdly overpriced.
2, if the items affect gameplay at all, it will mean the richest players win the most. Imagine if wow’s Carrot on a Stick was an NFT. It would be incredibly expensive.
3. It incentivizes companies to monetize every single thing. If every item is an NFT, then it needs to be minted. That costs money. That means MMOs and other games will have absolutely zero free drops, world loot, or loot boxes since it will cost the company money. This contributes to the nickel and diming of players.
4. The market doesn’t want this. Players are largely against this. Public sentiment is strong against adding NFTs in gaming, and enabling it is enabling the worst, most exploitative parts of gaming.
